Dental Implant “overdentures” explained

We often get patients at our office with loose denture problems. This is a very common problem as the jaw bone starts to shrink over time underneath the denture or the clasps “hooks” that hold a partial denture in place start to loosen. Dental Implants Bone Grafting

We often get asked by patients about dental bone grafting and if their case will require it. Often when teeth have been missing for many years, the jaw bone shrinkage associated with it makes treatment more challenging. This needs to be examined on a case by case basis. We often will recommend to patients to obtain a 3D scan of their jaw also known as a CT scan(computerized tomography). This gives us a clear guideline on how much jaw bone shrinkage has occurred and whether bone grafting is needed. Can we sometimes place the dental implant without bone grafting? yes. However the dental implant needs to be placed into the correct angle and position for not only long term success but for proper aesthetics.
